About Institute
Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology Allahabad, Allahabad (MNNIT) is an Institute with total commitment to quality and excellence in academic pursuits. It was established as one of the seventeen Regional Engineering Colleges of India in the year 1961 as a joint enterprise of Government of India and Government of Uttar Pradesh, and was an associated college of University of Allahabad, which is the third oldest university in India
With over 45 years of experience and achievements in the field of technical education, having traversed a long way, on June 26, 2002 MNREC was transformed into National Institute of Technology and Deemed University fully funded by Government of India. With the enactment of National Institutes of Technology Act-2007(29 to 2007), the Institute has been granted the status of institution of national importance w.e.f. 15.08.2007.
The Institute had begun with offering Bachelor Degree Programmes in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. It was the first in the country to start an undergraduate programme in Computer Science & Engineering in 1976-77. Subsequently, in the year 1982-83 undergraduate programmes in Electronics Engineering and Production & Industrial Engineering were started.The first Master's Programme of the Institute was introduced by the Mechanical Engineering Department in the year 1966. In all other Engineering Departments, Master's Programmes were introduced in the 1970-71. To add a new dimension to itself the Institute established School of Management studies in 1996, which offers a two year / four semester post graduate degree programme in Management (MBA).
The Institute now offers nine B.Tech., nineteen M.Tech. Degree Programmes (including part-time), MCA, MBA, M.Sc. (Mathematics and Scientific Computing) and Master of Social work (M.S.W.) programmes and also registers candidates for the Ph.D. degree. The Institute has been recognized by the Government of India as one of the centres for the Quality Improvement Programme for M.Tech. and Ph.D.The Institute has a very progressive policy towards extending all possible facilities to its faculty members to acquire higher degrees and receive advanced training. As a result, majority of the faculty members possess Ph.D. degrees. The entire campus is networked with 10 Gbps lease line.
In the year 1972, the Institute initiated a self employment project and established an industrial estate with 68 sheds with the objective of encouraging entrepreneurs and creating additional employment avenues.The Institute was selected as a lead institution in the Design theme under Indo-UK REC Project (1994-99). Under this scheme a Design Centre was established.The Institute has been selected as a Lead Institution under World Bank funded Government of India Project on Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) (2002-2007). Two state level institutions are networked with MNNIT under the project.
Academics
Teaching Methodology
Great emphasis during the classes is laid on core fundamentals and concepts. The examinations are designed to reflect the understanding of the fundamentals in practical fields.
Teaching Assistantship
Meritorious Post-graduate students are offered teaching assistantship which involves assisting instructors in practically everything related to the course like conducting lectures, laboratory sessions, tutorials and course planning.
Departmental and Institute Electives
In order to boost interest in other faculties of technology, the students can take up electives and/or audit courses from department other than their core area of specialization.
Industrial Exposure
Students are exposed to latest industry practices through several industrial visits during their course. Students are also encouraged to undergo industrial training during their summer vacations.
Institute programs
To encourage the faculty and student interaction, we organize various seminars, lectures and workshops. Through these the students get an opportunity to interact with eminent personalities from the corporate world and the academia.
Research & Development
It is mandatory for all B.Tech, M.tech and PhD students to take up projects under the supervision of the faculty. These comprise basic development and application oriented research projects. Students are also encouraged to publish papers in peer reviewed national and international conferences and journals.
Institute Industry Interaction Cell
The III-Cell promotes faculty members to visit industries to get technological information from the horse's mouth and also recognize industrial problems which can be handled by the institute workforce.

The Institute admits nearly 900 students to undergraduate programs and another 300+ students to postgraduate programs every year.
Students from countries such as Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Malaysia, Iran, Yemen, Iraq, Palestine and Thailand also join MNNIT for various undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY
Admissions to B.Tech. are made through JEE(mains). Disciplines offered under the B.Tech. Programme
MASTER OF TECHNOLOGY
The Master of Technology program is offered by all the Engineering Departments. The M.Tech program is of four semester duration first and second semesters are entirely coursework oriented, The third and fourth semester involves THESIS work.

MASTER OF COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
This program is offered by Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
Admission to MCA programme of MNNIT are made on the basis of result of NIMCET (NIT MCA Common Entrance Test)
MASTER IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
The admissions to the MBA programme are made on the basis of Common Admission Test (CAT) scores. The programme is offered in following specializations

MASTER OF SCIENCE
The M.Sc. programme in Mathematics & Scientific Computing is offered by Department of Mathematics
PH.D.
All the academic departments are involved in active participation in Ph.D. degree. Large number of research students are working in all the Academic departments for their Ph.D.
Infrastructure
Library
The Library is sanctum sanatorium in the temple of learning. The Central library has a collection of nearly 1,04,382 books and bound periodicals. It subscribes 53 Indian and 237 International technical periodicals. It also subscribes 11 newspapers (04 Hindi + 07 English) and 17 popular magazines on different topics. The Central Library has fully computerized catalogue search facility available to users through intranet. In addition, the library has access to 6327 e-Journals from 1309 publishers, subscribed by IITs, IISCs. IIMs (17 Libraries).Online journals are also available from INDESTAICTE consortium.
Computer Centre
The Computer Centre is connected to Internet through 500 Mbps BSNL and 10 Gbps NKN lease line. Server room has 7 different servers of different specifications & computational power. Students have access to about 350 computers equipped with latest hardware and software specifications. Parallel computing laboratory with Param 10000 Super computer, Param 8000, Computer Vision Robotics Laboratory with all suitable peripherals and software needed for the vision system have also been established.
Laboratories
The college encamps different departments which not only help in the smooth functioning of the academic activities but also provide the budding technocrats with the latest laboratory facilities for their technical upliftment and development of professional traits. Each department provides various lab facilities for the practical as well as research purpose.
Design Centre
The Design Center , established under the INDO-UK REC project, conducts R & D and consultancy activities in the area of CAD /CAM, PCB Design, Image Processing and Vision Systems, Robotics, Air Pollution Control & Structural Testing etc. The center is equipped with 24 no. of Pentium PC/AT’s networked together with 2 servers. Besides these there are other high precision equipments.
Research
Knowledge of latest research innovations is the key for developing the technical manpower of the nation due to
the overgrowing demand of industry for research oriented technocrats. With this motto the Research and Consultancy
Section at this Institute has grown significantly in the last few years on account of the faculty and researchers
actively participating in research and development projects.
Centre of Interdisciplinary Research
The Centre for Interdisciplinary Research (CIR) was established by the Institute in order to promote cross-interdisciplinary research. The Centre was inaugurated by Prof. P. Chakrabarti Director,MNNIT Allahabad on 28th November 2012. In view of the dramatic developments in the field of Science and Technology research, CIR has been established in the Institute to keep pace with current cutting edge research.
Activities of Research & Consultancy Section
- To frame and revise rules for Research & Consultancy.
- To provide guidance for submitting sponsored research proposals to funding agencies such as - DST,BARC,BRNS, ISRO, DRDO, AR & DB etc.
- Recruitment and management of project staff.
- Arranges special lecture of Academic, Research and Industrial relevance for latest knowledge.
- Managing Institute funded research project for newly joined faculty members.
- Conducting sensitization workshop for the faculty members to enhance the number of externally funded research projects.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Avishkar
Avishkar encompasses an entire gamut of events that test the technical skills and thought process of aspiring engineers from all branches with problems which check the technical knowledge as well as the intellect. Events like 'Online Programming' , 'Robotics', 'Hardware and Software Designing', 'Paper Presentations' provide the perfect stage for young minds to display their talents. It witnesses participation from the eminent Institutes like IIT's, NIT's and other Engineering Colleges with companies like DELL, L&T, On- Mobile, TCS and many more extending their support by sponsoring the events and organizing workshops.
Culrav
The cadence of life touches right note when it blossoms with all colors. Brushing of all shades of human emotion and artistic flair plays an important role in an all-round development. And this cultural extravaganza provides opportunity to all the students for the realization of this very purpose. The event is a culmination of sound and lights, of music and arts, of dances and drama, of thoughts and words, the perfect place to bring out the artist in everyone and to break the rut of daily life.
Sports
The Athletics Meet and Josh are the annual sports events which keeps the ball rolling for students throughout the calendar. The students participate with zeal and inculcate the virtues of a true sportsman. The students are also encouraged to participate in events like Inter NIT sports meet. Sports are thoroughly promoted with the aim that leaders of tomorrow need to be good sportsmen.
